Frequently Asked Questions

Customers are naturally welcome to ask me questions. The most frequently asked questions are these:-

What medium do you use?

I work in pastels, as I have found that it gives me the best results for this particular type of work.

How long does a commission take?

There is no set answer to this question. Various factors influence the delivery date, including: workload, especially at busy periods such as Christmas; the complexity and size of the painting; and the availability of a suitable photograph. Fortunately, I am able to juggle commissions so that I am often able to meet tight deadlines at less busy periods. In other words, deadlines are negotiable.

Do you take the photographs or do I have to supply them?

The short answer to this questions is: both. If you have a favourite photograph of an animal (for instance, one with its favourite toy or in a typical pose) then I am happy to use it provided it is a clear and workable photograph. In the case of animals who have already passed away, this is the only option. However, I am happy to take photos of animals based locally. Sometimes meeting owners in a location halfway between their home and mine is an option.

How do I get the photos to you?

Photographs can be sent either by post or by e-mail. All photos sent by post will be returned.

How and when do I pay for the painting?

Payment can be by either cash or cheque and is due upon completion.

Who owns the copyright for the painting?

The painting itself belongs to the customer upon receipt of payment, but the copyright remains the property of the artist.
